Helping the (insight) novice stakeholder make insight-led decisions

Room 1 | 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm | Thursday, February 29, 2024

When working with insight-inexperienced colleagues, how do you get them to make better, insight-led decisions? Poh Lau shares how her insight team took Formula E from making gut-led decisions and data-denying to making confident decisions founded in insight.

In our careers we’ve all experienced a situation where we’re working with colleagues who haven’t had much, or any, experience working with research or data and find it hard to know what to do with your findings. But where do you start with an organization that has never had to work with insight before?

In this session, Poh will share what has worked for her team over the last two years as they whipped their colleagues into shape through a mix of clever stakeholder management strategies, well-chosen methodologies and a lot of hard work. She’ll also share real-life examples taken from work the team has delivered for the organization while on this journey.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Working out what type of stakeholder you’re dealing with: just because they like research and data, doesn’t mean they know how to use it!
  2. How to win (get stakeholders to use insight) even when it feels hopeless (they’ve rejected it previously).
  3. You’re not alone: we all find ourselves in this situation and it’s really common but we can share tips on how to overcome it.
